Potter & Perry's fundamentals of nursing (3rd Australian ed., 2009)

For enrolled nursing and other nursing programs the library has purchased four copies of the latest Australian edition of Potter & Perry's fundamentals of nursing (3rd edition edited by Jackie Crisp and Catherine Taylor). The editors state in Notes for the instructor that "This textbook is designed for beginning students in all types of professional programs across Australia and New Zealand. The comprehensive coverage provides fundamental nursing concepts, skills, techniques of nursing practice and a firm foundation for more advanced areas study." - p. xxxiii.

The brief contents are as follows:

Unit 1: Client and the health care environment (chapters 1-5)
Unit 2: Caring throughout the lifespan (chapters 6-13)
Unit 3: Critical thinking in nursing practice (chapters 14-20)
Unit 4: Professional standards in nursing practice (chapters 21-25)
Unit 5: Psychosocial basis of nursing practice (chapters 26-30)
Unit 6: Scientific basis of nursing practice (chapters 31-35)
Unit 7: Basic human needs (chapters 36-45)
Unit 8: People with special needs (chapters 46-49).

This edition comes with several additional products:
  • Companion CD-ROM to the American 7th edition (contains a number of tools such as an audio glossary, sample test questions, etc.);
  • Companion Internet site to the 3rd Australian edition;
  • New chapter online (see Evolve Internet site above), Caring for the cancer survivor;
  • Online study guide (see Evolve Internet site above); and,
  • New Exam View Test Bank and PowerPoint slides.
To access the book's companion Internet site students and staff will have to register. To do that successfully you will need the registration code and then follow the prompts; the registration code is printed on a card in the CD-ROM pocket inside the front cover, alternately ask the library staff for assistance. The library also has the second edition, published in 2005.

Please note: This title is not available for loan during 2009 to reciprocal borrowers or community borrowers.
